The swiss-cheese rock “huecos” hold water which has sustained life in the desert  for thousands of years. Today the same Huecos attract rock climbers from around the world. Self-guided access is limited to North Mountain, while many guided access options exist.

What’s the Weather at Hueco Tanks?

Hueco Tanks is in a West Texas desert climate. Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures generally topping 90°F, occasionally triple digits. In the Fall and Spring the Fall, temps cools down to average highs in the 70s-80s°F, while winter is typically mild with daytime highs in the 50s-60s°F but can dip below freezing at night. Winter is a popular time for rock climbing, but any time can be good if you chase the shade or the sun. Always remember to pack plenty of water and sun protection for your visit, regardless of the season.
