Hi, I’m Ky.

I founded Lone Star Parks to spread joy and protect parks through better Texas Adventures.

For 11 years, my job was to help visitors fall in with Texas State Parks. As the Director of Interpretation every interpretive sign, trail map, and ranger-led program had my fingerprints behind it somewhere alongside the incredible staff of Texas State Parks. If you’ve ever been to a Texas State Park, you’ve experienced a visitor product or program that I helped with.

My outdoor career has been rooted in Outdoor Education. I led month-long wilderness leadership trips with NOLS, hosted an Outdoor Leadership training with UT, taught weekend wilderness first aid classes, and led community outreach efforts for REI.

My Texas Adventure resume includes trips in each of Texas’ 89 state parks as well as various adventures during 19 Big Bend trips. A few highlights:

  • Founding the Big Bend 100 - longest backpacking route in Texas

  • 10 days canoeing the Lower Canyons of the Rio Grande

  • Overnight paddleboarding on the Devils’ River, Santa Elena Canyon, and Caddo Lake

  • 15+ years climbing Central Texas Limestone and Enchanted Rock

  • Canyoneering Big Bend

  • Summiting the four tallest peaks in Texas in one day

  • Mountain biking the IMBA Epic Loop at Big Bend Ranch

E-mail me if I can help with anything. -Ky
